Isaias is now a post-tropical cyclone, but the flooding threat remains significant across parts of the Southeast.
As of 4:00 AM CDT, Isaias was located about 25 miles south-southwest of Montgomery, Alabama, moving north at 14 mph. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to 35 mph, and gradual weakening is expected as the system moves across Alabama and into the Tennessee Valley. Isaias is forecast to dissipate Sunday.
🟠 FLOODING REMAINS THE PRIMARY CONCERN
Rainfall through the weekend could bring:
- 4–8 inches across southern Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and southwestern Georgia.
- Localized totals up to 15 inches across portions of the Florida Panhandle and Florida Big Bend.
- 2–5 inches across much of the remainder of the Southeast, with isolated totals up to 10 inches possible in the Southern Appalachians and coastal Carolinas.
Flash flooding, urban flooding, and river flooding remain serious concerns, particularly across southern Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and southwestern Georgia. Landslides are also possible in the Southern Appalachians.
🌪️ TORNADO THREAT CONTINUES
A tornado risk will persist this morning into the afternoon across parts of the eastern Florida Panhandle, Georgia, and the Carolinas.
🌊 GULF COAST BEACH HAZARDS
Water levels along Florida’s Gulf Coast will continue to recede. However, swells from Isaias will continue affecting Gulf Coast beaches, creating dangerous surf and potentially life-threatening rip currents.
✅ ALL TROPICAL STORM AND STORM SURGE WARNINGS HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED. No watches or warnings remain in effect for Isaias.
⚠️ Bottom line: Although Isaias is weakening, heavy rainfall and flash flooding remain the biggest threats. Never drive through flooded roadways, and stay alert for warnings from your local National Weather Service office.
This is the National Hurricane Center’s final public advisory on Isaias. The Weather Prediction Center will issue subsequent public advisories beginning at 10:00 AM CDT.
