Maclovio Perez joined KAVU-TV 25 News Now as chief meteorologist in March of this year.

The Texas native, whose broadcasting career spans more than five decades in Texas and Los Angeles stations, had retired from the industry, exiting KRIS-TV just before the pandemic. He had been at the Corpus Christi station 11 years.

But he didn’t stay still long.

Last year, Mac ran for a U.S. House seat, winning the Democratic nomination to represent Texas’ 27th Congressional District. At the time, he acknowledged it would be a tough district in which to win. He lost in the general election.

Now he’s back on the air, kicking off a new phase of his career at the Morgan Murphy Media-owned Victoria ABC affiliate.

Mac got his start in television news and weather in San Antonio’s KENS 5 in 1974. He moved to L.A. in 1980, where he spent 16 years as a meteorologist at KCBS, before returning to San Antonio for a job at WOAI-TV.

He is a founding member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
